When it comes to repairing dents on your vehicle there are lots of DIY kits on the market that promise to save you money. But there are some occasions when, however well intentioned, our DIY efforts can actually cost us more in the long run.
Why bypass expertise?
Our body shop technicians have years of training, qualifications and experience behind them. It’s a very skilled job and despite their claims, DIY kits simply can’t produce the same result, especially in the hands of the average Joe. Yes, the instructions may be comprehensive, but it’s no replacement for a skilled technician.
It can cost more in the long term
Initially you will save money by buying a dent repair kit, especially one of the cheaper packages. But to complete the job to a high standard you’ll pay more in tools than you would to take your car to the body shop. The materials in the DIY kits are invariably lower-grade tools and much different than those the professionals will use.
You could cause further damage
A poor repair job that erodes over time could introduce rust to the body work in the long run. Not to mention that in the short term you could easily cause more damage to your car by attempting to fix it yourself, meaning a larger repair bill when you do eventually decide to take it to the shop.
You need to act faster than you think
Everyone has a ‘to do’ list of jobs they really should get around to but never quite manage. If you have a dent or a scrape on your car, putting off the repair job is not an option. Even in the time it takes for you to purchase the repair kit, or wait for it to be delivered; the damage to your car can be corroding further.
You could void your warranty or insurance
Depending on the situation, you could void your manufacturers or aftermarket warranty by attempting a repair job yourself. If the problem is likely to affect your insurance status you should always get it fixed by a professional as your insurer may require proof that it has been repaired to a high standard.
